MLK Bridge

Monroe,

Michigan,

United States

Spanning the River Raisin, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Footbridge in Monroe, Michigan, connects St. Mary’s Park to the north with riverfront parking and the vibrant Downtown shopping district to the south.

Originally constructed in 1988, the bridge has been a vital pedestrian link in the community for over 35 years. It recently underwent a comprehensive revitalization, featuring structural
repairs, new synthetic decking, updated fencing, fresh paint in the city’s colors, and new lighting – reaffirming its role as a cherished pedestrian gateway.

Traxon Media Tubes with diffused lenses frame the entryway on each end of the bridge, inviting pedestrians to cross. The Media Tubes mounted downward on the overhead cross beams cast
a soft, even glow across the walkway. The light also reflects off the bridge’s base, creating a luminous ribbon above the water. More than just a functional crossing, the bridge now stands as
a symbol of art, innovation, and the community’s enduring care for its shared spaces.

Upon completion of the project, the newly upgraded bridge was proudly rededicated to commemorate 60 years since Martin Luther King Jr. was named the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
