Century Tower, a historic campus icon, received a lighting makeover thanks to fixture solutions and controls from Traxon e:cue.
The University of Florida in Gainesville, home to the Gators, is a large public university that was founded in 1853. Recently ranked sixth among best public universities in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, UF has much to offer students from an excellent education to one of the most successful athletic programs in the NCAA. It also offers a campus that spans more than 2,000 acres full of beautiful, historically significant buildings. One of these historic buildings, Century Tower, recently received a lighting makeover thanks to fixture solutions and controls by Traxon e:cue.
Century Tower, a 157-foot tall structure located at the heart of campus, stands taller than any other historic building at the university. Construction of the bell tower began in 1953 to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the university. It houses a carillon of 61 bells, chiming each quarter of the hour from 8 am to 8 pm. And now, thanks to a partnership between UF and Traxon e:cue, the tower shines bright! ProPoint™ Linear RGBW fixtures have been installed inside the bell house, highlighting the windows, while Traxon dynamic white fixtures illuminate the carillon bells. In addition, mounted on the ground at the base of the tower, ProPoint Vista RGBW fixtures highlight the building’s façade and stonework.
Century Tower, a historic campus icon, beautiful in daylight, now also comes alive at night. With the addition of controls by e:cue, the lighting can be changed quickly and easily, with static or dynamic looks to match campus events, holidays, and of course, to show school pride. Matching dynamic lighting displays of orange and blue can now be seen throughout the night after a Gators victory!
