Phoenix,
Arizona,
United States
Located in Downtown Phoenix, the Maricopa County Administration Building stands 11-stories tall and is one of the most prominent jurisdictions in the State of Arizona. The building is home to over 1,400 staff members, including the County Manager and other various government operations.
Upon renovation in 2024, the county was able to consolidate staff and services, creating a full-service resource for residents, developers, and contractors alike. Including a new conference center, larger fitness center, and upgraded support spaces – along with upgraded technology and energy efficient lighting by Traxon e:cue – 301 W. Jefferson upholds civic design ideals through environmentally conscious solutions.
As part of this renovation, the client put a heavy emphasis on creating an exterior lighting design that focused on safety and security, while highlighting the main architectural features of the building. Additionally, there was a request for a “worry-free” lighting control system where pre-programmed scenes could be scheduled anytime.
The exterior lighting and building façade design concept was based on enhancing the character of the building and creating a unique personality that had the ability to communicate with the community through light. For example, the client is an advocate for Domestic Violence Awareness, and they are now able to display the color purple in a scene running the entire month of October. Additionally, for New Years, a scene full of colors that represent confetti, can be seen flying through the air, inviting pedestrians to join in the celebration. These are just a few of the many scenes that can be implemented at any moment, with the ability to also make last-minute changes for new events.
